Course Sub-Level: Contract Management of Works Contracts
General Course Description
This course will cover the principles of contract management and will provide in depth understanding of the role of the key players in managing the contract from contract signing stage till the taking over of the works by the Employer and settling of final accounts.
The course will also shed a light on contract related financial issues, payments, variation orders, claims and settlement of dispute.
The course will also cover termination of the contract.
Course Outline
- Phases of the Project;
- Site possession and Contractor’s mobilization;
- Role of parties to the contract and role of the Engineer, site organization and management;
- Time & quality control, Health and safety on site;
- Site progress meeting;
- Financial aspect of managing the contract, guarantees, variation orders, payments, liquidated damages;
- Appointment of Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB) Claims, Disputes and how to avoid disputes;
- Risk management;
- “As Built” Drawings and operation and maintenance manuals;
- Taking over the site by the Employer;
- Defect Notification Period;
- Evaluation of the performance of the Contractor.

Pre-Requisite Knowledge and Experience
- Diploma or first degree in procurement or any financial field. OR Basic experience in procurement management and/or control AND Basic English is desirable but not compulsory
